DVOR-DME radio navigation system installation in the Air Base of the Lithuanian Air Force in Šiauliai

Client:

Lithuanian Air Force, Air Base in Šiauliai

Period:

2017/01 – 2017/12

Project description:

On 23 December 2016, Elsis TS, UAB and the Lithuanian Armed Forces signed an agreement on the installation of the Doppler Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range – Distance Measurement Equipment (DVOR-DME) in the territory of Airbase of the Air Force of the Lithuanian Armed Forces located in the international Šiauliai airport.

The main purpose of the project is to replace the old equipment of the very high frequency radio beacon and ultra-high frequency rangefinder by a new modern equipment and ensure its compliance with all types of requirements set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), European Organization for Civil Aviation Equipment (EUROCAE), the European Parliament and the Council and other local and international regulations. The DVOR-DME system is used for the following navigation purposes:

  • Orientation and identification of the aircraft’s bearing, distance and location;
  • As supporting orientation for radio-navigation – for holding or manoeuvring;
  • Approaching aircraft’s landing access points.
