Runaway conditions observation and forecasting information system at Vilnius International Airport

Client:

SE Vilnius International Airport

Period:

2008/06 – 2008/12

Project description:

he system consists out of the runway cover sensors, which are installed into the aircraft runway, the data collection and transmission controllers, which are mounted on the special pillars; the sensors, meant for measuring of the temperature, wind direction and speed, rain, air condition (mist, rain, snow, etc.), and a set of the computer equipment. The software of the system reflects the current condition of the runway cover and, according to the meteorological data, obtained from the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service, forecasts changes of the runway cover for the next 24 hours. With taking into consideration the preliminary forecasts, the airport attendance services can timely prepare the necessary equipment and the other safety means. The system is provided with a special emergency module, which efficiently informs the attending personnel about the forecasted dangerous air conditions by reflecting the information both on the computer screen and by the SMS message.

The project was realized together with the Finnish company „Vaisala Oy” (the manufacturer of the equipment) and company „Kerista” (the land and asphalt cover jobs).

Hydrological observation network modernization. Water measurement stations

Client:

Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service under the Ministry of Environment

Period:

2007/04 – 2008/08

Project description:

In the course of project implementation automatic water measurement stations were equipped at the 5 rivers of Lithuania, i.e. in the Nemunas near Lazdėnai, in the Leitė near Kulynai, in the Gėgė near Plaškiai, in the Akmena-Danė near Klaipėda and in the Merkys near Jašiūnai. Recently quite large floods used to occur at these rivers. The modern equipment, manufactured by the German company “SEBA Hydrometrie”, was installed in the automatic water measurement stations; the equipment registers the water level, the water and air temperature every 15 minutes and expediently passes these data to the hydrologists. The additional information, provided by the new water measurement stations, will allow increasing of precision of the issued forecasts.

Meteorological data editing and visualisation system

Client:

Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service under the Ministry of Environment

Period:

2008/02 – 2008/04

Project description:

The Meteorological Data Editing and Visualisation System (MDRVS) of the French firm Corobor Systemes, installed in the main departments of the LHMT, opens up the possibility for specialists – synoptics to use world-class tools for obtaining, analysing and visualising meteorological observation and forecasting data, increasing the efficiency of the information, forecasts and warnings, enabling to reduce the impact of adverse hydrometeorological conditions on economic activities, the environment and human beings.

Solar radiation measurement station

Client:

Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service under the Ministry of Environment

Period:

2007/11 – 2008/03

Project description:

Solar radiation measuring equipment is installed at Šilutė Meteorological Station. The project was implemented together with the Dutch company „Kipp&Zonen”, the manufacturer of equipment. The solar radiation measuring equipment will permit to measure very precisely the direct and indirect solar radiation in the wide range, starting from the UV and ending with the far IR. After price configuring and positioning the equipment will operate fully automatically transmitting all the date of measurements to the central database of the service.

The solar radiation measurements serve as a very important part of meteorological observations because the solar radiation determines almost all dynamic processes of the surface of the land.

Equipment for Lithuania led Province Reconstruction Group camp in province of Ghor Republic of Afghanistan

Client:

Ministry of National Defence

Period:

2007/04 – 2007/12

Project description:

The company has successfully finalized equipping of the military camp, which is meant for the Lithuanian led Province Reconstruction Group (PRG), Province of Ghor in Afghanistan, providing container-type habitable and office buildings, field hospital, laundry, storage containers, food refrigerators and cold storage, water purification equipment, fuel repositories and pouring equipment, electric generator for the soldiers and civilians, serving in the PAG mission. The electric network, water-supply, sewerage, soil & waste systems were installed in the camp as well, i.e. all, what is necessary to secure the minimal comfort conditions in the modern military camp. The equipment was delivered from France, Great Britain, Sweden and China. . It’s value amounts to 15 mln. Lt (4,3 mln. Euro).

Specific and strict requirements were raised towards the equipment – it had to be adjusted to work in the alpine locations, to withstand the significant temperature fluctuations as well as strong wind and dust.

The logistic part of the project was also complex, i.e. large cargoes had to be delivered to the most remote part of Afghanistan – to the Ghor Province. Totally 160 containers, loaded with the equipment for the camp, were delivered by 83 auto-vans. Both the local workers Afghans and specialists from the other countries used to be hired while arranging the infrastructure installation jobs, including preparation of the territory for the camp, digging of trenches, concreting of the foundation and assembling of the equipment.

Tactical automated command and control information system (TAVVIS)

Client:

Ministry of National Defence, Lithuanian Land Force

Period:

2002/02 – 2007/01

Project description:

Tactical Automated Command and Control Information System (TAVVIS), is a C2/C3I type situation awareness system, MIP (Multilateral Interoperability Programme) baseline 2 compliant. It provides the military commander with a common combat picture and related data. TAVVIS system includes hardware (communication systems, IT infrastructure) and software. TAVVIS software consist of several modules: GIS client module – provides the view of combat field and locations of military units, gives detailed personnel and logistic information; Server module – maintains the connectivity and data transactions between client modules; Communications module – collects GPS data from military units; Data replication module – communicates with other C2IS systems of the joint coalition forces.
